Just to set the record straight, Flo Lucas is living with her daughter Ramona in Louisville. She is in good health and does not have Alzheimer’s disease, contrary to rumor. Thank you.

.

I am really glad that this season for UK basketball is over. This is by far the worst team I have ever seen at Kentucky. Thank goodness they will be gone by this time next year.

.

Maybe if you would go up and knock the holy heck out each and every one of UK’s players — like they did Archie Goodwin — just before a game, that would addle their brains just enough. I take that back; I seriously doubt this team could have beaten Upper Kingscreek.

.

I’m calling in about the Whitesburg City Council meeting where some of the people from the Upper Bottom were quarreling about Kentucky River Community Care operating a home in their area: They were talking about the clients standing outside and smoking and this and that. If they want to do something that matters, why don’t they do something about that child molester who lives in the Upper Bottom?

.

To Jim Ward: We think you are doing the best you can with what you have to deal with, but we need to suggest you have the coroner be present at the next meeting because we think Magistrate Codell Gibson is dead. He never speaks. Could you have the coroner check him out?

.

I’m an evangelist who has traveled to a lot of churches, local and out of state. I don’t think it’s right for you folks to get in Speak Your Piece and talk about your churches. Many of the comments I’ve been seeing are about the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. I don’t know who is doing the calling, but I’ll be praying for you. You shouldn’t be getting out and airing your laundry in the local paper that everybody reads. Now I can understand why folks don’t want to go to church. We church people need to keep ourselves in check and do what is right. Then maybe people will come to church and know they need to be saved. Thank you.

.

Kentucky’s game against Robert Morris is one of the sorriest games I’ve seen in 35 years of watching. My grandson could play the guard position better than what UK’s guards did. I told a friend of mine the first of the season that the guards were going to be this team’s downfall. I hope Calipari, before next season, picks someone who can shoot a basketball. I’m very disappointed in Kentucky this season. What do other readers think? Thank you.

.

I have a complaint about ‘The Swap Shop’ on WXKQ in Whitesburg. Every morning they have the same people on there and nobody new can get on. Many of them have enough cars to run a car lot. A man from Neon with a car and wheelchair to sell is on there every morning. So is the man from Knott County selling dogs. People like him have dog kennels and use the program to sell the dogs, but ‘The Swap Shop’ won’t let some people sell wood or advertise they are available to work. Some of the people who are on there every day should take a break and let other people get on the air. Thank you for your time.

.

I go to the Boone Fork Senior Citizens Center for lunch every day and I think there’s more jealousy down there than at any of the other senior centers. They always complain about the man in the blue truck from McRoberts, but it’s nothing but jealousy, just pure jealousy.

.

To a certain person: Yes, you’re right, I did kill your dog. It had nothing to do with the dog, it’s because I don’t like you personally.

.

To J.B.: I’m so glad you said what you did. Now everybody knows you’re not only a thief, but a liar too.

.

I was just calling to voice my opinion about the Letcher County Division of Child Support office. I think someone else should be taking care of the child support enforcement. My child is now seven years old and the father is more than four thousand dollars behind, and he’s not had to go to jail or anything. I think this is ridiculous. We need help too. This system is messed up and someone else needs to take over. I think I’m going to start calling the state.

.

Someone needs to do something about the drugs being sold and bought at Number Six Hollow.

.

Am I mad? Do I have the right to be mad? Did God get mad and say ‘Vengeance is mine’ in the Bible? Don’t you need to tell me what’s going on?

.

To my mother: It’s me again. Why can’t you wake up? Your boyfriend treated me wrong but you hold up for him. Maybe I’m wrong, but if a mom loves her son wouldn’t she give up a guy who is mean to her son? I hate his guts. I will always love you, but you have hurt me more than words can ever say. I wish I had my old mom back. You sure changed the day you meet the jerk.

.

Well now, look who’s not working. It’s Mr. Money Bags. Apparently he has gone and gotten another girlfriend snagged. He’s gone out and bought her a new car so she can come by for weekly visits. One of these days this man’s pot of gold won’t be there any longer. If he had any sense he would go somewhere else where the jobs are. Surely he knows Letcher and Perry counties have dried up like Knott County. Enjoy the new vehicle while you can.

.

I would like to tell the guy who drives the red truck toward Isom that I think he is really hot and he should get up with me. I live on Blair Branch and I’ve seen him a time or two at Double Kwik. I think he’s married, but I don’t care.

.

If you want to play cards, just come to the poker house at Indian Creek. There are lots of card games and plenty of wild women.

.

To Mayor Susan Polis: Your concern for the filth in the post office is overwhelming. It’s too bad you didn’t show that same concern when all your citizens in the Neon and Goose Creek areas did not have water and still do not have water half the time. Maybe you should pay more attention to what’s going on in your world instead of the post office.

.

Hey, Neon and Jenkins politicians. Don’t you all think you should be getting some of that beer money to work on your town with? To work on your streets and pay your employees? Why should Whitesburg get all the pie? You would have money to pay people with and you would feel better about yourself.

.

It’s time to speak up. When the Letcher County Central High School girls’ basketball team went to the state tournament, two high school team members were left behind. It’s my understanding there was no good reason for this decision by school officials. If the two girls were being disciplined that’s one thing, and I strongly agree. However, if they were left behind for any other reason it’s a travesty to those children. The KHSAA paid for lodging and food for teams that won regional tournaments. If there were no disciplinary reasons for leaving these girls behind then officials must realize this will be with these girls for the rest of their lives, and not in a positive manner. If they practiced, participated in fund raising activities, and there was no good reason for them to be left behind, then the athletic director and the coaching staff should be held accountable for their actions. These girls also were not included in the trip to California around Christmas either. Wrong. If you can’t afford to take everybody on the team, don’t go. That’s why it’s called a team. It should be inclusionary. For generations there has been a difference made in the treatment of children in all of our schools, not just LCCHS. I hope and pray that this situation was one with a credible reason for the exclusion of these two girls. Otherwise, the parents of every child in the system should be in an uproar. The superintendent, Anna Craft, should step up and put this situation at the top of her agenda and address it in a strong and serious manner, before she leaves the system. If this was an injustice, Ms. Craft could leave a lasting impression with the proper treatment of this situation. Also, if it was an injustice, then the KHSAA should step in and penalize LCCHS for the mistreatment of these girls.

I just want to respond to the person who was praising Suboxone and saying people shouldn’t criticize it: I have a friend who is really bad off on Suboxone. I happen to know from experience that it’s simply another addiction. You’re trading one for the other. I’m sick of people praising Suboxone. I’ve seen people with my own eyes steal for it. They can’t even get up out of the bed and go through the day without it. So what’s the difference in that and what it helps them get off of? When you don’t have it you get sick. Therefore you need it. It’s simply trading one addiction for another. Thank you.

.

To a certain city official: Hurting a woman is really a hard thing to do. Don’t you agree?

.

I would like to thank Wayne Fleming for making the motion and Terry Adams for seconding the motion that says every citizen of Letcher County has the right to address the Letcher Fiscal Court with their concerns. It’s only American. Jim Ward and Codell Gibson may not like it, but people have the right to address the court, which is supposed to represent the people.

.

I think Grandma should be reading the Bible instead of the romance books. She would be better off and maybe not be so oversexed.

(Are you hurting Granny or just leaving grandpa’s everywhere wondering just who in the world she is?)

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: Why don’t preachers tell where in the Bible you can go to find men loving men. It is Romans Chapter One, Verse Twenty-Seven. God bless.

.

Some day I will come running and you can fall into my arms forever. You are my angel and I love you.

.

To a certain lady: We all know about the pregnant lady your husband was a part of, but any woman who would stay with a man after he tried to make out with her little sister can’t be much, especially when it happened while you were pregnant with your first child. Let’s see what comes up next.

.

I would like to comment on the hiring of the new head football coach at Letcher County Central. Once again the county school board has decided that athletics is more important than academics by going out and throwing money at Mike Holcomb to get him to come to LCC from Breathitt County while students here do not have textbooks and teachers do not have all the resources they need to be able to teach like they are expected and held accountable for. I really thought the two new school board members might put a stop to hiring these highpriced coaches and put the students first, but I guess I am wrong. They let Superintendent Craft and Athletics Director Ozz Jackson continue to control how our schools are run. I encourage The Mountain Eagle to look into how much Holcomb is going to be paid. I think since public tax money is being used the paper can request that information through the Kentucky Open Records Law — and I mean the real figure, not some generic one. It is no secret that boys’ basketball coach Robert Hammonds is paid around the $90,000 mark to be assistant principal and coach. That’s twice the amount a classroom teacher is paid and in his time LCC has not won a single district championship. Raymond Justice won two straight championships and was fired. His son, Cameron Justice, could be putting big numbers for LCC instead of KCC and maybe we would have played in two straight Sweet 16’s instead of Knott Central had his dad remained coach. Also, I think the new football coach should have came from one of the deserving coaches already in Letcher County, guys like Terry Howard or Jim McCauley, who both have proven on the middle school level they can play with the likes of Johnson Central, Clark County, Belfry, Breathitt, Hazard, and Perry Central. Also, both are native Letcher Countians and there would be no need to find or create jobs for their wives since both of their wives already teach and work in the Letcher school system. I think our local born and bred coaches Dickie Adams and Betty Von Caudill at LCC have done a pretty good job holding their own, don’t you? Also, winning a state title in 5A is a little tougher than 1A. Just ask Hillard Howard and Paul Rains about that. I just think academics are more important than athletics. I also think that classroom teachers are more important than high-priced coaches who don’t often teach a single class period all year except weight lifting, which is made up of all athletes so they use this as a way to practice during the school day. Haven’t you ever driven by Breathitt High School during the day and seen them out on the football field practicing? I sure have, so expect that to be the scene at LCC next school year. When is our local school board going to wake up and put a stop to taxpayers’ money being wasted on coaches and put the kids and our teachers and classified employees and education first? This is Letcher County Central High School, not the University of Kentucky. Please, Mr. Kiser and Ms. Boggs, step in and do the right thing like you told those who elected you that you would do. We know the others are just Anna’s ‘yes men.’

.

I wonder if Gary Rogers would loan us one of the vehicles he uses that are purchased by Letcher Voluntary Fire and Rescue. Would we have to go to Turkey Creek to pick the vehicle up?

.

Letcher County residents want to know what happened to the application about the free food? What happened to the article in the newspaper telling us it is time to get the application for the free food? Where is the money that paid for my seeds that I didn’t get? Inquiring minds want to know. I’m calling Frankfort. You know who is in Frankfort, the Attorney General.

.

To a certain person: You are making things hard on me and harder than they need to be on both of us. We haven’t really talked in four months and then the two times I speak to you, you are in a pretty serious state of disrepair, strung out from an all night bender on a drug that makes you pick fights with me out of thin air. Then you don’t remember the next day what happened the night before. If you want this to work out then we need to do better, be better, and be more careful about how we care for each other, when we care for each other, what we say to each other and how we follow through with what we say. I don’t think second chances should be taken so lightly.

.

Could you please tell me how many people received their free garden seeds last year and how many people received their free garden seeds this year? Do you know where my money and my neighbor’s money went to pay for our garden seeds that we didn’t get?

.

To Shannon from Wiley: I’m so glad I met you. You have turned my life completely around. I love you so much and I thank you.

.

To a certain person: I hope you read this before April 2. Happy birthday and I haven’t forgotten you. I hope you know who this is.

.

As bad as Letcher County is in debt, how is it that we are graveling all private driveways?
