The photos of the recent major drug bust shown in last week’s edition of The Mountain Eagle probably means that one group of dealers have been caught. In an economically depressed area such as this, it’s very sad to see such a quantity of drugs and think about how many people were buying them. It would be fantastic to see the same amount of energy put into something to benefit this area, wouldn’t it? I believe a few of the people caught in this offense are repeat offenders. Considering the nature of these factors, it is very likely they will spend a long time locked up. Just another example of how drugs ruin lives. I recently saw someone I had not seen in a while. They were extremely thin with the unmistakable evidence of rotting teeth. Like so many who fall victim to the grip of addiction, they looked about 20 years older than their age. So, I am glad some of the people responsible for dealing drugs are off the streets. I don’t feel sorry for them one bit.

.

People, I used to be a hater of cops, but I was wrong. I apologize for that, cops. Anyway, a cop was killed near Pikeville the other night. From January 1 until now, that made 19 or 20. If that had been one of us coal miners, the state and federal inspectors would be crawling all over us like fleas, trying figure out what is going on. I know killing cops is a whole lot different, but where is this world going? I’m glad I was a coal miner instead of cop. Cops, please be careful out there.

.

Let us all pray for Letcher County sailor Keith Wright, who is out there putting his life on the line in Afghanistan.

.

Finally, Attorney General Jeff Sessions made ‘J. Edgar Hoover’ put some pants on instead of wearing the tutu around. It’s about time they got that boy, McCabe, out of the FBI office. It’s a sad sight when the FBI directors are so underhanded, but America is cleaning it up. The boy thought he was going to resign, but he got fired. Now he won’t get his full pension. They need to dig deeper and see what he did the last 20 years. They’ve always got jobs open in security at Walmart. Anyway, it’s about time Jeff Sessions stood up. The Trump team is draining the swamp. There are few still clogging it up, but by the time Mr. Trump gets through with it we’ll have a pretty good Washington, D.C., and FBI and Americans can put their faith back into the system. They took it from us during the last 15 years or more. God bless America, God bless Mr. Trump, and God bless his staff and family.

I would like to know how I could become an illegal immigrant. I’ve been a United States citizen my whole life, but I’ve never gotten any benefit from it. I see all the benefits to being illegal, so that’s what I’d like to do but I don’t know how. I know I could smoke me a little dope and sell me a few pills. And I like to drive drunk as often as I can. I might run over top of somebody every once in a while, but if I had an illegal immigrant card I would just show it to the police, throw both hands up and listen to them tell me, ‘Sorry we stopped you. You’re an illegal immigrant. Go ahead.’ Does anyone have any suggestions on how to be an illegal? Thank you.

.

Happy birthday to a retired schoolteacher from Cowan Elementary School on April 2.

.

I think it is crazy the City of Jenkins had city employees out on city time removing campaign signs of one city employee’s opponent.

.

While I hate hearing all this news about fast-food restaurant workers getting physically attacked just because they messed up someone’s order, I can see how it happens. Just now I ordered a hamburger from a certain fast-food place in Whitesburg and got all the way home to find out I got someone else’s chicken sandwich instead of the burger I ordered. I am furious, but I’m not going to go back and attack the workers. What would that prove? I would like to know why they make so many mistakes these days, especially when they no longer even have to talk to their customers or ask them if they would like salt or ketchup. I mean, how hard can these jobs be?

.

What is going on at the Appalshop? I heard they weren’t going to have any more concerts there. I love the Bluegrass Express Live shows and tried to go to every one of them. I love the remodeled theater, but it won’t do much for me if I’m not going to get to hear any of that good bluegrass music in a live setting. I don’t know what’s going on over in your neck of the woods, but I hope they fix it soon. Maybe I’ll go to Wise or Norton and see what’s going on over there. And thanks for delivering your paper over here to Pound. We love getting it, especially the coupons.

.

I’m calling about the police officer who was killed over in Pikeville. I pray for my family in church every Sunday, but I’m also going to start praying for these police officers. With danger everywhere, you don’t know if they’re coming back home or not. If you get the chance, you might want to join me in saying a prayer for the police officers. Thank you.

.

I was very saddened to hear this news of the Pikeville policeman who was killed in the line of duty. However, I find it very distasteful to see the way the Hazard television station and a couple of other news outlets take advantage, in my opinion, of such a tragedy. A little more class could have been on display, in my opinion. Thank you.

.

People who deal large quantities of drugs like we saw with the recent meth bust should be charged with crimes against humanity. All the faceless people who bought those drugs doesn’t mean there are no victims. I suppose those who sell think they are some kind of big shots, but they instigate one of the worst things a person can do to anyone. Addiction is a disease in how it affects the entire whole of a person. Those who sell drugs are actually predatory to those suffering from addiction. Maybe I am too outspoken about this, but I don’t think so. Obviously it takes several approaches to tackle this complex issue, and maybe one approach is to enact laws as I suggested. If we are to refer to this as a war against drugs, then why can’t we say proven and repeat offenders are in violation of the same idea? Thus, war crimes? And, crimes against humanity.

.

I have a serious comment about a certain public defender. This attorney is definitely in the wrong job. This attorney had no knowledge of the subject at hand nor any knowledge about person who was being defended. I felt sorry for the attorney, but I will keep in my thoughts forever all the actions that either were or were not done by this attorney.

This is in response to the person who called Speak Your Piece a couple of weeks ago about the fancy car getting hit in the Food City parking lot: If there is a reward offered I can give you all of the information you need to know.

(What if it was your vehicle that was hit and damaged? Would you want to have to pay a reward for such information?)

.

People, I am here to advise you to never rent your house. I rented to several people, and all of that put together can’t pay me back for the damage that just one of them did. So before you start renting, start thinking.

I have an idea for all the people who are complaining about their electric bills being so high. Why not propose an idea to the Letcher County government, or whoever will listen, to bring in alternative sources of power — wind power, solar power? I’m planting a seed here, people, so I figured I would pass this information on. Maybe someone else will decide to water this seed and nurture this seed into something that would benefit us all. Thank you.

.

Dear Speak Your Piece: I cannot get over this opioid insanity that our state, county, and city governments are portraying. It is now ‘let’s join a lawsuit against these terrible pharmaceutical companies so that we can get enough money to run’ our city, county, or state government. It’s a sham. I’m on a low-level pain medicine for my pain problem and I am doing fine. I know it’s not for everybody, but if they keep this up you won’t be able to get a pain pill if you break a leg or get shot.

.

To a certain man who recently became a father: What are you going to do when the real father shows up? Good luck.

.

Parents beware. We have a pending national crisis. When a political party uses, encourages, and organizes our schoolchildren to walk out of the schools to support a political agenda, they have sunk to a new low. Keep the kids in the classroom learning and not in the streets protesting. Is it any wonder the United States ranks 35th in the world in spending the most money on education? Thank you.

.

I just wanted to share a little verse for the day. Please read, if you would like, Luke 1:37, which says, ‘For with God all things are possible.’ You may be down and out today, but if you read that it might give you the strength to go on and get you encouraged to do better and feel better about the day. I love you, and may God bless us all. Thank you.

.

Beware of the salt and pepper guy who goes around bumming people for money and cigarettes at Walmart and Food City. Every time I go in those stores he is there and walking around to see if he knows someone he can bum from. Beware of this dude, because he goes straight to the dope house and buys drugs. I know, because the drug house is next door to me.

.

I see in Speak Your Piece where a caller say he or she is not going to vote to re-elect Letcher County Clerk Winston Meade because of his backing Steve Addington for magistrate in District Five. I also have always thought Winston Meade is a fine man, but I won’t back him, either, as long as he backs those Addingtons. We love our trails and Mr. Addington is putting a stop to it. We can’t have that and we are not going to vote for people who support that. Thank you.

.

I live over in Virginia and come over to Whitesburg to see to all the bluegrass music shows at Appalshop when I know about them. My friends are telling me they are not having any more music shows over there. Does anyone have any information about that? I tried calling there, but I never got an answer. My wife and I like to come there and eat at Pine Mountain Grill and catch that Bluegrass Express. Please do not quit having those shows over there.

.

Why is Senator Mitch McConnell so set on killing any rules that make it harder for big banks to crash our economy again? Congress just passed a bill to unleash the big bank dogs and Mitch McConnell wouldn’t even allow a vote to keep fair practice rules on banks that got more than one billion dollars in taxpayer bailouts when they crashed the economy. Ditto for hindering banks that paid more than ten million dollars in fines for scamming us. Gosh, the Senate might possibly have voted to keep some rules on rogue banks. Guess Mitch McConnell couldn’t risk letting that happen. Wells Fargo and company must love him and pay him well. Thank you.

.

To the person who called in and said marijuana is not safe: That is not true. I am a natural health consultant. My ex smoked it and he was never sick one day. We need to legalize it. Cannabis oil is one of the top treatments for cancer.

.

To the person who commented about wishing to get a Lexington Herald-Leader on time: We didn’t get ours up here in Jenkins for a week. If the delivery person is sick or whatever, he needs to give it up. We want our paper, please.

.

Two of the best looking buildings in Whitesburg are the health department and the rec center. Just look at them when you go by.

.

How many state workers does it take to patch a hole? One, with seven others standing and watching.

.

‘ Kill Your Radio’ are words I didn’t expect to hear tonight when I tuned to WMMT to hear my rock music, but that’s what I felt like doing after hearing all that talking and screaming. What have you done with all of our good weekend rock shows, WMMT? Are you trying to kill your radio station?

.

I want to say thank you to Steve Addington and the others for blocking that trail on Pine Mountain. We will remember you on Election Day. Thank you.

.

Well it’s a lovely Friday night for the month of March and we are sitting beside the campfire enjoying a cold refreshing beverage. I go to turn on the radio as I often do on Friday nights to hear a great show with a great DJ and I find that Beavis and Butthead have taken over. After listening to this for 30 seconds I can say I am done with Friday nights on WMMT. So sad.

.

I am against any kind of action by the U.S. government to restrict the right of American citizens to own and use guns for self-protection. The only reason the United States is a free country right now is because people have the right to protect their life and property by using a gun if necessary. If you will notice, when the hoodlums are tearing up the business districts downtown, doing a riot, they never extend their activity out into the residential neighborhoods where people would have to fight back in order to stay alive. The only thing right now keeping half the American citizens alive is their right to protect themselves, because the police can’t do it.

.

To Speak Your Piece: guess you all didn’t get my last letter a few weeks ago or you didn’t want to print it. Recently, someone said Trump is a bald face liar. Well that is just not the truth. This is just some foolish person who does not know what they are talking about. Look at all the good things President Trump has done — making America great again, passing the tax bill, stock market going sky high, jobs coming back to America. Obama has had not one thing to do with making America great; it’s all about Trump. As for me, the Harlan County man, all of you foolish liberal people can go to hell. But I will try to help you all. Do this: Take two weeks off and watch Fox News for three hours a day, mostly Tucker Carlson, Hannity and the Ingraham, followed by one hour of ‘Gunsmoke.’ It will help you out a lot. God bless America and our President Trump. Signed, Harlan County Man.

.

Vetting? Is that a new word or something? I cannot find it in the English dictionary. Therefore, I wonder how many more words have been thought up and launched by ignorant educated people in hopes of leaving their mark on history. They should investigate all aliens who want to enter the United States for any or all reasons. There is something about the way things happen that makes a difference. We can trust in God, or we can trust in man.

.

To AEP, CEO and management in Columbus, Ohio: Shame on you. You are deceiving and untrustworthy. To all of AEP’s linemen and hardworking people who keep our lights on: May God bless you and keep you safe always.

Someone took so much time to make Pine Mountain a sight to see. Someone built overlooks and placed picnic tables to see the beauty the mountain holds. Someone should really take the credit for making the mountain a sight to see. But someone should also take the credit for trashing and messing up the Mayking area. Someone really trashed it up with spare tractor-trailer parts. Come on, someone; make Mayking a sight to see.
